‘How does the interpretation and meaning of a work of art changes through time and place & to what extend an artist can control his or her work’s future?’ For this project Momart invited guest curators Semâ Bekirovic and Tudor Bratu to formulate and assemble an art manifestation around these questions.

How does the artwork relate to a work in flux? To what extend do context, perception and interpretation change the value, meaning, the essence of a work of art? The title, SUPERPOSITION, is a term used in quantum mechanics to denote hoe matter can manifest itself in all possible states at once. In the show we investigated how this term could be applied to a work of art. What if we try to view the artwork as a range of possibilities rather than a uniform thing?

A manifestation starring for example ‘The first sculpture in space’, a remake of an episode of John Berger’s Way of Seeing (1972) by Lorna Mills, Mussolini’s Head and an e-mail correspondence regarding a police report regarding an invisible artwork by Maurizio Cattelan.

As soon as a work of art leaves the artist’s studio, its context changes. Through time, by changes of place or political or economic circumstances but also by becoming part of a group exhibition or art collection. Does the meaning of the artwork change when its context changes? And to what extent can or should the artist influence this?
